Maritime

Overview

Archer Norris’s maritime attorneys are trial lawyers, not just litigators. Our experience starts with years at sea and ends in the courtroom. Our experience working at sea aboard merchant vessels and in shipyards provides us with an insider’s knowledge of the maritime industry. Simply stated, we know the business of shipping, and use that experience to our clients’ benefit. When combined with substantial trial experience, this knowledge allows us to represent our clients efficiently and effectively.

Our maritime attorneys have successfully represented clients in property loss claims. We have substantial experience in both litigation and arbitration of cargo damage and cargo loss claims. In addition, we have assisted and defended vessel owners in analyses of shipboard system failures relative to personal injury, collision, cargo and hull and machinery claims.

Similarly, we have successfully represented cargo and vessel interests, domestic and foreign underwriters and P&I Clubs in all manners of controversies, from claims to litigation and arbitration. We have advocated our clients’ interests in varied venues, from domestic state and federal courts to foreign jurisdictions. We have successfully defended vessel interests in personal injury and wrongful death claims of both seamen and longshoremen.

We are also counselors. We provide advice on commercial contracts and regulatory matters. and render opinions on first- and third-party insurance coverage questions for Marine underwriters. In addition to our own experience, we draw on the deep experience of the business, insurance coverage, finance, and regulatory sections of the firm, providing our clients with thorough representation in all relevant areas of law.
